Unique and innovative Light in Jyväskylä event
The fourth Light in Jyväskylä event kicked off on the18th of September. The opening ceremony was arranged at the Kauppakatu pedestrian area’s meeting point Kompassi (compass) and the event was opened by the Mayor of Jyväskylä, Mr. Markku Andersson.
This year the event presents a record number of 20 new, permanent lighting installations. Some of them have been temporarily lit before, like the bridge of Kinakuja and blue Yliopistoportti statue in Seminaarinmäki area. Both new and old illuminations can be seen on guided walks throughout the whole event.
Image, sound and light unite in a new way
There will be about 30 additional events taking place during the month-long Light in Jyväskylä event. So, there will be something to see and admire for every day.
The opening night program on the 18th of September includes announcing the winner of the competition for the estate lighting as well as showing the images of the achievements of the City of Light project from recent years. The Idols star Katri Ylander will also be performing at the opening ceremony.
Jukka Korpihete uses the wall of Lyseo for his light installation, which combines image, sound and light in an unparalleled way. There are four shows every night between 18th and 20th September. The artist Jari Haanperä got a construction site elevator, some floodlights and a white wall to work on. With this material he will create Hissivalo (Lift Light) artwork at the crossroads of Kilpisenkatu and Vapaudenkatu. Hissivalo is a part of Keinovalokytkentöjä exhibition seen at Holvi of Jyväskylä Art Museum from 20th September to 23rd November.
Local representatives of various political parties will have a discussion on energy saving at Aaltosali on the 26th of September. The event is opened by Minister Mauri Pekkarinen. On the last day of September the international Guerrilla Lighting event will generate a whole new kind of discussion on light. A parade march starting from Paraatinaukio in front of the City hall invades the streets with big flashlights and it will most certainly create magnificent experiences on light.
