Sinfonia Finlandia Jyväskylä and Joensuu City Orchestra on Tour in Spain

This November, Sinfonia Finlandia Jyväskylä (Jyväskylä Sinfonia) and Joensuu City Orchestra will perform together with pianist Maurizio Moretti and condactor Patrick Gallois. in the sunny cities of Vigo, Castellón de la Plana and Valencia. Their tour repertoire contains Piano concerto no. 1 by Johannes Brahms and Jean Sibelius’ Symphony no. 3.

Before the orchestras start their conjoint tour, they will perform at two venues in the cities of Jyväskylä and Joensuu. Jyväskylä’s concert will be on the 18th of November at the Jyväskylä City Theatre, starting at 7 pm, and the Joensuu performance will be held on the following day at Carelia-hall starting at the same time.

Johannes Brahms composed his Piano concerto no. 1 over a period of five years. Originally the concerto was a sonata for two pianos, but for some reason Brahms started composing a symphony from the material he already had. Years went by and Brahms changed his mind again and composed in the form of a piano concerto.

Sibelius’ Symphony no. 3 can be described to be influenced by the aesthetics of the classical era, when comparing it to his earlier symphonies which can be described as more romantic. The composer experienced a new phase in his life when he was composing the symphony. He had just moved to his new home, Ainola, and he felt happier. It has been said that the new phase of Sibelius’ life is heard in the music of the symphony.
