Access to wireless network at the Main Library of Jyväskylä
The City of Jyväskylä has installed a wireless network at the Main Library of Jyväskylä Public Library (Vapaudenkatu 39 - 41). The network enables customers to connect to the Internet via laptops equipped with wireless network cards. The WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) is intended for data transfer in the same way as a normal local area network, but data is transmitted wirelessly via radio waves, without cables.
The users of the wireless network are required to have a user-id, which they can get at all the information service desks of the Main Library. Along with the user-id, they will get written instructions on how to start using the network. The user-id is valid for a maximum of three hours at a time.
Customers can use their own laptops and the network in the public spaces of the Main Library. In addition, they can borrow a laptop from the lending desk of the Main Library adults’ department (2nd floor) for a maximum of two hours at a time. The laptops of the library can be used in the reading room of the third floor and in the reading spaces of the second floor. The computers are equipped with Microsoft Office package software and a web browser, and memory sticks and diskettes can be used in them. It is not possible to print directly from laptops.
The laptops of the Main Library can be borrowed by customers who are over 15 years of age. When borrowing a laptop, a library card and an ID card must be shown.
