Samuli Heimonen
Young Artist for the year 2008

The Saarijärvi born Samuli Heimonen (1975) now lives and works in Kangasniemi. He graduated with a Master’s of Fine Arts from the School of Applied Arts’ PALLAS master’s programme. He held his first solo exhibition in the year 2000, although he has participated in group-exhibitions from 1998 onward. The exhibition Young Artist 2008 – Samuli Heimonen, was shown at the Tampere Art Museum this past spring, and will be shown at the Helsinki City Art Museum this coming November.
“My new paintings are more intensely focused animal figures. However I am not trying to depict animals but rather people, peoples’ feelings and hopes. Animals are substantially human to be able to reflect human thoughts and also substantially different so that the pictures are not dull. People’s need to classify animals from an ethical and moral viewpoint is also included in this work when critically or stereotypically represented.“ the artist tells us.
Exhibited at the Jyväskylä Art Museum Holvi are 9 large-scale oil paintings.
